no mobile remote -- 2010-09-03 I got this laptop today, and there is no mobile remote in the box. WHY???????
Awesome Buy!!! -- 2010-08-30 As says my title, i am overlly satisfied with my purchase. It took me about two weeks of research on laptops to be able to find the best my money can buy and i was down with either this laptop from Amazon or a very similar one from HP. I was very big on the processors, and was looking for an Intel Duo core i3 or i5. i7 was not in my price range. but i have to say now, there was no need for the i7 the i3 i own now work so well that EVERYONE in my house always asks to borrow my computer when they need to do basically everything (although we have two other computers in the house).
I have to say though like every one said the screen reeeally attracts fingerprints, but to tell you the truth, i always walk around with my little wipe and in a sec can make my laptop look brand new again. So that was a very minor problem i barely notice it now. My real issue is inside. The keyboard area attracts dust like you would not believe and its a bit enoying wiping it since you have both the keys and and the touch screen options on top.
But enough with that, Media Smart is the bomb. It lets you go online use camera web cam, watch tv all without even turning on your computer! Oh and windows 7 is amaizing. doesnt automatically comes with the icons on the right that Windows came up with not long ago, but you can actually put and arrange those as you please.
Overall i loove this product and everything in it. I could sit here and write for hours about the little features that make it so wonderful but that would bore you to death. So i will end with this note, for anyone looking for a good product at a lower price, this is a Definite Must!!

great laptop for a great rate! -- 2010-08-28 I have been looking on laptops for 3 months. to be honest i found lots of better laptops than this with lower rate on amazon but i always was skeptical so i didn't order. but i decided to order this one and i am really satisfied with it so far. the only thing wrong i noticed about this laptop is when i am shut down and start again the screen kind of has a few silver lines going through it but that's only for like 1 secs and only when i am restarting. there is nothing else wrong with this laptop. a must buy but if u have more money then get this same kind of laptop with webcam and s-video.
Unbelievable -- 2010-08-27 Just got my brand new Presario loaded & downloaded my long awaiting email off the server when the computer quit. Outlook had just downloaded so no backup had been created. The server is cleaned after the successful download so no copies there.
Oh well.
After 3 calls to tech support in India and getting the shipping carton 3 days later guess what? I have to pay the shipping to get this piece of crap to the shop in TN.
Hum....
This is my third Presario laptop and likely my last.

 | HP Pavilion DV6-2162NR 15.6-Inch Black Laptop--Up to 4.25 Hours of Battery Life
I got a typewriter for my High School graduation -- 2010-08-27 OK, so I finally converted to a PC after owning Macs for 20 years- for goodness sake, Apple, lower your prices! I could afford another Mac, but they've lost my business because their prices are so inflated. I've got to admit that the transition was painless and the set up was incredibly easy, even for a person such as myself who just learned to text 6 months ago. This laptop is just the perfect size for sitting on the dining room table, on my lap, or throwing into the car. It starts up quickly so I don't have time to walk away while it gets it's act together. The battery life has been enough for me so far to take in my truck for the day, the keyboard is well designed with a full, separate section for the nubmers, and the touchpad (which I hate using) isn't too sensitive- I've used other laptops where I had to tape a piece of cardboard over the touch pad because it was so sensitive! The screen is just big enough to allow a couple of windows to be open without me needing to find my reading glasses, and it looks as if there are lots of slots in the sides to plug things in if I ever find things I'd like to plug in :)
Not very durable! -- 2010-08-26 I bought this laptop last year from [...] for college. It was a great buy because of the price. I've owned many HP computers and they usually end up being problematic; however, there is an invisible force of attraction between me and HP that keeps me buying their product for some reason time after time!
For the first few months, it was swell. But after about 4 months, my battery couldn't charge anymore. I ran a battery health check and it told me to replace my battery. Luckily, my warranty had not ran out so I called them up. The operator was very busy and she hastily asked me for my name and address so she can send me a new one "ASAP". One week passed and still no battery. I am a college student and I use my laptop to take notes in class. I had to bare a whole week of going to class early so I can hog the seat next to the electrical outlet so I can plug my laptop in. Later that week my mom told me there was a strange package for a "Sheila McDonald" (or something of that sort) from HP. THAT WAS MY BATTERY! For some reason the operator had input the wrong name. I called them, angrily, and this new operator laughed at the mistake and promised to get it right. After 2 days, I received my new battery.
Problem #2. After exactly one year, after my warranty expired, after what I consider moderate use, the left-click touchpad physical button gave. The springs that is supposed to hold it up after every click collapsed. Now, I rarely even used this button because obviously the touch pad is touch-sensitive, whenever I need to left-click, I simply used the touch, not the physical key. But nevertheless it broke, and the warranty is expired so I can't get it fixed.
Problem #3. After the problem with the touch pad, I noticed that the charging notification light fails to illuminate whenever I plug my laptop in for a charge. Some days, good days, the light would have a generous heart and light up for me-- for a brief period before it extinguishes.
Problem #4. After a year, my hard drive begins to crash regularly. I've done numerous hard-disk tests and not one passes. At times, the test will fail to start and freeze for days until I decide to cut it's power source. The only way out of it is to avoid the disk test all together and use it knowing it has a fatal problem that can possibly shut down my work unannounced.
I promised myself never to buy another HP again! It's your choice. My laptop still functions fine. But you have to succumb to the laptop's needs. You can't use it they way you'd like; you use it the way it likes.

HP does a cheap work -- 2010-09-01 I personally own a macbook pro 13", and love it. I was trying to find one with reasonable price for my dad's entertainment. I only fav Intel processor, any AMD is out of my consideration. After researching on many websites, I saw this one on amazon. Its package is very nice. I also saw other reviewer mentioning they bought it for a better deal at Office Depot. I got the laptop for around 700 (including tax) on the last day of the special sale. It was a hot sale item. I had to drive 40 min to another city to get it.
When I finally got home and opened the box, I was very happy with the whole design, it looks very thin and sleek. I was starting to set up the profile and everything. My 1st click on the trackpad, IT POPPED UP! The size of the trackpad is slightly smally than the cut on the laptop. I picked up the trackpad, and could see every wire underneath it inside of the laptop. I thought I was unlucky to purchase one of the few defected ones. So I immediately called office depot. They said they are all sold out in IL state. They had to transfer one from Indiana for me to exchange. I went in and exchanged it today. The manager was so nice to ask me to inform them if everything runs smmothly this time. I unboxed the 2nd laptop. And surely I checked the trackpad this time. It has the same problem! The trackpad is partially glued with the cut space, but I could still clearly see the tiny space between them, and the surfaces of the side of the trackpad and and the board next to it is not on the same leverl, uneven.
What can I say. You get what you paid for. Even though it's a nice package overall, but HP did a very cheap work of the making. I would not consider HP again in the future.
Better than expected -- 2010-08-30 The laptop was better than expected. I wasnt sure about the touchpad bc of all the reviews but it works good for me. The features for the price were exceptional. I like the small, sleek design. The only thing I wish it had was a light for the keyboard. I would definitely recommend it!

The good, the bad, and the unavoidably H.P. -- 2010-08-31 Just the facts. or at least anecdotal opinions (from a non-gamer who uses this type of device as a portable development workhorse):
The good:
* Fast. I've seen some other i7 units and this definitely keeps pace if not surpasses them. The memory and drives are very fast (2 x 7,200 RPM makes for some nifty RAID 1). Note that the graphics chipset seems to be set at 500MHz, not 1GHz but it seems very snappy to me still.
* The display is great -- crisp and clear.
* It's VERY quiet. Amazingly the quietest laptop I've even owned.
* Virtualization works very well on this machine.
* I'm looking forward to using a USB 3.0 drive on this someday.
* Value for the money seems reasonable to me.
The bad:
* You can't have 3+ displays without a display port device. I'm seeing some confusion over whether it has to be active or not, but right now I'm guessing it has to be an active adapter to VGA or a display port monitor. I can't test the third display yet since I don't have an adapter...
* I don't like the mouse pad. The multi-touch function is a pain, especially since the mouse buttons are part of the pad. This makes resting your trigger thumb rather touchy. It'd be nice to be able to disable it entirely without having to screw with X11 but no Fn key seems to do that.
* The sound from the laptop speakers sucks. I'm a little biased on this since I'm going from the deep, epic sounds of the Harmon/Kardons of my Quasimodo to a set of speakers that have all the acoustic depth of a wet towel. When plugged into a more advanced system, they seem to work fine, but I don't really understand why I'm supposed to get all jazzed over this "beats audio" thing. The only thing it seems to beat is
* It runs VERY hot when first purchased.
The unavoidably H.P.:
* Upgrade the BIOS and all the drivers right away. Doing that alone decreased heat output greatly for me. (I haven't been to the hospital for palm burns since.)
* Battery life is not great, even with two batteries included. I'm estimating about 3-4 hours for BOTH TOGETHER. I capitalize not out of anger but to forewarn the wary shopper. This is a portable aircraft carrier, not a dingy. Higher heat levels = more power.
* Why oh why does Windows/HP feel the need to take all four primary partitions on their laptops. (Make your backup DVDs early. Especially if you're a Linux user and are planning to repartition but might want to make sure they're available for later. Just sayin'. You don't want to be one of _those_ guys that has to dig out the recovery NTFS out of the partition table by hand because you accidentally turned on the dynamic drive looking for a way to get an extended partition.)
* When initially started, before the BIOS upgrade, the fn keys would do BOTH the regular operation + the HP operation. Normally you would hold "fn" and then press F1 or what not, but the default state didn't seem to require the "fn" for whatever reason. The BIOS upgrade seems to have fixed that.
This would be 4.5 stars if possible since it fits my personal needs (if indeed I can get the third display), but since I can't I have to rate 4 since the machine isn't really perfect.
This is the one -- 2010-08-24 I've been waiting for this laptop to arrive for 3 weeks now, it arrived and the packing was really soiled, amazons box and then the hp box and then the absorbent thing then the envys box, i started it, was really fast and i liked the new hp ui and custom stuff, i ran every thing together like a crazy guy "bitdefender+recovery burning+copying my old filed from an drive+google chrome downloading and installing+itunes+........more than 5 things at the same time and when one fineshes i start the next" believe it or not it took 15% of the cpu only, every thing is beautiful, one thing that really stunned me is when i opened my computer i only found 320 gb of hard drive,, where is the other 320 one ?
shouldnt it be 320+320 ?
gonna try world of warcraft, warcraft, counter strike source, league of legends and many other games and tell u how it works"
--- Update:
fixed the hard drive thing it wasn't in place right i installed it and its working, tested it on wow and its running great "60 fps on normal 30 on ultra while no one is around"

 | HP Pavilion dv6-3010us 15.6-Inch Laptop
It's a great buy! -- 2010-09-01 I saw this model at one of the Office Superstores (it was WAAAY cheaper)...not sure if I am able to say the name but it's the one that sponsors the arena where the Lakers play. Overall, this is a great computer. I purchased it as a replacement to a 5 year old Dell XPS notebook. I already own a quad-core version of this notebook (HP DV6) and was so impressed with the performance, quietness, and coolness, I bought this one too! (It's not for me.) The aspects of this computer that I like the most: it's thin, light, quiet, doesn't get too hot, the graphics, the LCD screen (LED backlit), and the 7200rpm hard drive. My only gripe with this model is that the touchpad is picky. I had to go into the touchpad properties and turn on/off a few features.
Oh, and another plus, press F11 when the system starts up and do a "minimal" system restore. It wipes out a huge majority of HP bloatware! After I did that, the computer beat my expectations! I highly recommend this to any user who is looking for a good, mid-range laptop that is good for HD-quality video, light gaming, and powerful with productivity applications. (ex. MS Office, Adobe, iTunes, etc.)
The battery issue in a previous post didn't happen to me. However, I will say that two of the USB ports are very tight...but I have yet to break anything...
I've owned HP computers in the past and this is my first one since 2002. I'm glad I switched back.
Good -- 2010-08-31 This product is good, when i try to play games or watch movies, it is good for programing. The windows calification is not bad but sometimes is a little slow.

Good Desktop Replacement not Great -- 2010-08-23 It's a very nice looking laptop very sturdy, pretty good triple core processor but the bloatware will slow you down a bit, nice graphics card haven't played any games with it but I benchmarked it and it got similar scores to other systems with the same card. Windows 7, i don't care much for it. But I just gotta get used to it I guess. What happened to simplicity?
1. Gets hot, uncomfortably hot when resting your hand on it and typing, this was kind of expected with the amd processor known to run hotter than intel counterparts-i would buy intel if i had a choice, also the graphics card contributes to that heat, although you can switch to integrated graphics but I am not a fan of the switching because I think it is just another unnecessary thing that can go wrong. I have read reviews of people having problems with this switchable graphics design in gaming or graphics card not being recognized.
2. CD/DVD drive is terribly designed with a tiny little button to open it that you can only press with your fingernail and its a hassle to open it. I don't use the drive much but it would be nice to have something with a button that you can easily press. Also I read someones review that the drive broke and they couldn't open it anymore with the button. Hope that doesn't happen.
Other than those two issues-overall it is still a very nice laptop, I just wish they had spent some more time on cooling the laptop and that crappy cd/dvd drive.
HaPpy with my HP Notebook -- 2010-08-22 I bought the HP Pavilion dv-7 because I wanted a larger screened laptop. It's an increase over our HP 15 inch laptop, but I had imagined there would be a bigger difference. Another misconception I'd had is that this model had a backlit keyboard. It doesn't . The Beats audio played through the laptop's speakers is good, but far from spectacular. With some adjustment fiddling, the sound is acutally pretty good played through my external Logitech speakers. Enough whining already.
The Display - Color is vivid and as good as on any monitor I've ever owned. As I type this review using the 60 day trial of Microsoft Word, the text is crisp, dark, and very legible. Photos look superb on this display as do graphics brought up online. Graphics are especially good using the 64 bit explorer but web videos won't play on this format. I won't pretend to be a gamer, but the few arcade style games I've played on this laptop look terrific.
To try out the display, I downloaded a movie from Amazon. The download only took a couple hours and the movie (The Dark Knight) looked great on the screen. There is a key to adjust the brightness of the display, but so far I haven't had a need to use it.
Keyboard - I like the feel of the keyboard, though the keys are not as concave as on my other HP laptop. The keys are not as slick and shiny as those on the Toshiba laptops I've seen and there is more separation between the keys.
The touchpad is not overly sensitive and works fine, but I prefer using a mouse and keep a Logitech M305 attached.
Aesthetics - This is a great looking laptop with an elegant looking silver finish. On the back of the lid is an HP logo that stays lit when the laptop is on. The keys do show fingerprints and the user is advised to type on these with clean fingers. I've noticed that this unit is also a dust magnet, more so than any laptop I've ever used. Best keep a can of compressed air nearby.
Windows 7- My technical savvy is average at best, but even I have had no problems adjusting to Windows 7. It's easy to learn and seems much more stable than Vista. On the hard drive are videos and help screens for Windows 7 that many users will find helpful, especially initially.
Help guides - Just about all the laptop information is on the hard drive. To get you started there is a start up poster and a rudimentary owner's guide. One of the odd warnings found in the pamphlet sized guide warns the user that the computer can get hot and he or she should not rest the laptop in his or her lap. Funny stuff.
Battery life - For me it's great. I never use the laptop unplugged for more than two or three hours, more than enough time to watch a movie. The battery is quite large and snaps onto the bottom of the laptop externally. Its bulk raises up the back of the laptop which actually makes for an ideal typing position.
Adding peripherals is easy with this laptop. I have a printer upstairs which the laptop found quickly after I had loaded the Canon drivers on the laptop. If I can make a wireless connection, anybody can.
Fingerprint reader - I figured this was a useless gadget that I'd seldom if ever use. I've actually grown to like it quite a bit. Once the fingerprint reader is set up, you just brush a finger over the reader instead of typing in a password. Like a kid, I get a kick out of it every time.
HP Quickweb is something I haven't used often. When the computer is turned on a Quickweb screen appears that allows the user to access photos, music , or even the web without the need to start Windows. It really doesn't take that long for Windows to kick in, so I seldom use the Quickweb feature.
Despite a few minor complaints, I have no regrets purchasing this laptop and would do it again.
Final Word - Set up of the Hp dv-7 out of the box was child's play. I downloaded and installed some updates and set up a simple password. Then the computer restarted itself for all the updates to take effect. When the computer came back on it wouldn't recognize my password. What a nightmare. Finally after trying everything I could think of and researching the problem on another computer, I opened in safe mode and was able to start all over again, erasing all that I had done previously. From my Googling I learned that mine was not an isolated problem with Windows 7. The good news is that I've had no problems since.

 | HP Pavilion dv4-2173nr 14.1-Inch Laptop - Black
Best Laptop Ever! -- 2010-08-28 The HP Pavilion DV4-2173nrs the best laptop iveever had, theres a bunch of people who say HP has a lot of defects but dont listen to them! Theyre either lying or they treat their computers like junk and thats why they need a new one. Its Fast, Accurate, HD, has a cool design, and a little HP logo in the back that lights up when its on. It has only one con I can think of, the battery lfe is pretty short if your a heavy duty downloader like me. But if you need more battery life just buy a High Capacity HP battery. Hope this helped :)
Great product -- 2010-08-24 The product is great because it meets all the needs that you need, this is quick, very agile and reliable to work.

 | HP G72-250US 17.3-Inch Laptop
HP Laptop -- 2010-08-29 Excellent Laptop, the best computer I've owned, and I've had a lot of them. Great buy too.
Another foot. -- 2010-08-27 The HP G72-250US is a good machine. 17.3" screen is great. But c'mon Hewlitt Packard, because you put in a HDMI port, you had to short the extension cord for the 12v adapter by a foot to 18"? Other than the VZ manager not supporting the operating system for broadband, which I'm trying to resolve through Verizon, all in all I like it. It's the little things that R + D put into something, that makes the difference for me, and the cord length was a small burr under my saddle. Now, here's the
[deal-i-o] with Staples. Paid $ 549.00 plus tax, and would have got an instant $50.00 in store discount off of that, but here's the rub. You have to turn in a laptop or your old computer that will turn on. Unfortunately, mine was dead, so I couldn't participate. Still a great buy. I still killed the price by $ 50.00, and with the coupon, you'll stomp the competition on pricing. One more thing, why aren't all laptops in the year 2010 backlit on the keyboards? It can't be technologically impossible at this late stage in the game. Pssst......R + D, if research and development doesn't speak for us out here in the market, then the suits you work for will run roughshot all over us, and rape and pillage our pocket books. Other then that, this machine could have been great, instead of good.
