 | Lenovo Ideapad G550 2958-9PU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)
LENOVO IdeaPad G550 Laptop -- 2010-08-30 Purchased this for a college student and set it up and configured this with extra features and applications. The laptop despite previous previews of poor sound quality and people with lazy hands that touched the mouse pad the laptop is great. It is fast and comes with the right amount of memory from the start. Sound quality is good and loud too. I wouldn't hesitate to buy or recommend this to friends, family, and clients as a good buy for the money and quality laptop. I plan to buy a few more of these. Lenovo did a good job on this one. It is made in China but everything is made out of USA anymore thses days.
Quality hardware for a cheap price -- 2010-08-27 I did a lot of research to find the best value at 450-500$ and I've narrowed my search down to this laptop.
quick processor, good amount of ram, good size screen.
We didn't get charged tax on this purchase, which was a pleasant surprise!
I like the design that lenovo used on this laptop, It's feels very strong and looks nice as well.
The performance is great for running everyday applications and multi-tasking but gaming is horrendous on this thing, no big deal though... It's a laptop.
There was lots of boatware to uninstall initially, more than I'm used to seeing.
The face recognition software is useless so don't let that feature bring you closer to this laptop.
The only downside that I've found is that I can't permanently disable the touch pad through the bios or even with the FN keys.
The only reason I gave the product 4/5 stars is because I'm nit picky.
Everything else is great!

 | Lenovo Ideapad G555 0873-74U 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)
A reasonable machine for the price, a nice big screen for my 80+ yr old mum -- 2010-06-28 First my cons:
1) Lower quality WiFi transceiver it seems
2) Impossible to type with jumping cursor until I disabled the touchpad
3) I could shave in the shiny reflective screen
4) The battery drains faster than the advertising
5) I'll add the bloatware myself thanks if I think I need it
1) I experienced some dropped connections that now apppear to be isolated to the extranet WiFi at work though both my Lenovo T60 and an Asus eeePC 901 I keep at work have never dropped a WiFi connection. The G555 did so repeatedly not keeping the connection for more than a few mins at times. I would have to disconnect and connect to regain my connection. At home the WiFi did not get dropped across the house but the performance was half to my Asus eeePC 1000H that I keep at home. So sitting next to the router the G555 could achieve only a 75Mb/s connection compared to 150Mb/s for my 1000H. Across the house the G555 drops down to 32Mb/s less than half again of the 1000H. I attribute this to seeing for the first time a Broadcom transceiver vs Atheros or Ralink. I noticed on the Lenovo support website for the G555 that the lastest drivers are from Atheros. Does this mean that Lenovo has done a WiFi switcheroo in production and I'm just one of the unfortunates not to receive version 2 of the G555. Why are the latest two drivers from Atheros?
I fixed 2) by buying a mouse and disabling the touchpad, I've never had to disable a touchpad on many a laptop before. There is no sensitivity setting for the touchpad available.
3) The screen is very reflective making it harder to see in a bright room or with a window behind me. I thought reflective screens like this disappeared a decade ago, how much could it possibly cost today to add a non-reflective screen.
4) The battery is advertised as 4 hours but I got low power warnings after 2.5hrs on Windows 7 Power Balanced setting. This of course was a little expected due to higher performance CPU and GPU than my ASUS machines.
5) Finally as mentioned in many reviews there is a silly amount of bloatware installed, I removed 90% of it. The software installs are located on the D: drive.
Other than the above the rest is pretty good for the price. It feels pretty solid, its fast. The screen is nice and bright (if only they had made it non-reflective). The camera seems to work fine, all the basic features are there that I enjoy on my ASUS eeePC machines. My mum will be happy (she did not know a mouse could be used with a laptop). Hopefully Lenovo can fix a few of those issues I mention for future owners.

 | TOPSELLER SL410 T6570 2.1G 2GB 250GB DVDRW 14IN W7P
As Expected Business Laptop -- 2010-06-28 Have been using Lenovo ThinkPads as simple and reasonably sturdy business laptops for field sales users. The SL410 continues to serve our needs. Had a system board failure under warranty in a previous unit and local warranty repair was done promptly with no fuss or cost to us.

 | Lenovo Ideapad U-550 15.6-Inch Black Laptop - Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium)
Be aware, very aware! -- 2010-08-03 1. Re Amazon: "Select Super Saver Shipping as your shipping speed. After your order ships, it will be delivered within 5-9 business days." The secret word is "After". The 5-9 business days countdown begins "after" Amazon gets around to shipping your product. You could be waiting half a month before you get it.
2. The Lenovo U-550 is slow, verrrry slow. I didn't realize they still made computers this slow. What a disappointment after using my older HP Pavilion, which I wouldn't buy again because,in my opinion, it suffered from premature hardware failure.
3. This Lenovo U-550 came with more junky software than I wanted to weed through. Maybe it is partially Windows 7 fault, but Lenovo seemed to be taking a lot of credit. All I really want is a reasonably fast computer with the hardware features as specified and an intuitive operating system that is compatible with the hardware. This is my computer. I don't need others anticipating what software and features I might like. If I want something special I can go on line and get it.
In short, I would not buy this model computer again and I would not recommend it to others.
Large screen and light weight -- 2010-07-04 This is my first Lenovo laptop and so far it has been a good experience. On the practical side, the laptop has a bigger screen than my old 15" Dell Latitude, but so much lighter that it doesn't hurt my back carry it around in a shoulder bag. It is very quiet. That battery seems last forever. Design-wise, being an architect, I think it is one of the best looking laptop out there that is not a mac (but so much cheaper). It looks very thin. It has a very interesting texture on the cover that reminds you of a Louis Vuitton bag. From gadget standpoint, beside the multi-touch pad, the computer come with a face recognition software that work with the built-in webcam, so you don't have to type in password ever again to log in.

 | Lenovo ThinkPad T410 2516ADU 14.1-Inch Laptop (Black)
Not IBM Thinkpad quality, nor reliable -- 2010-07-14 The SL510 that we ordered arrived Dead on Arrival. The new Lenovo keyboards are no longer as good as in the IBM Thinkpads. In fact the flexy keyboard is downright cheesy. A major disappointment. Lenovo Thinkpads were supposed to be winning Editor's Choice awards and all that. Well, maybe. But not here. This dead one went back and I bought a used but very nice older model IBM T43p.
I hasten to add that this attempted purchase was through Newegg. After some years of successful purchases at Newegg, they have gone solidly to the Dark Side. Newegg is now very dirty. Don't risk a purchase of more than $25 on Newegg. You will probably regret it, as we did.
