I just received this item and was very disappointed that the clip is not made for laptops. When I did the search thru Amazon "web cams for laptops" this item comes up first. I cannot speak to the quality or performance but I hope this helps someone else not make the same mistake.

Quick, easy, and good results -- 2009-01-05
I bought this webcam for my mom to use and so far it has turned out to work great. All you had to do was follow the instructions and it worked. It clips onto our laptop well and also came with a little zip pouch that it fits into for travel, which is convenient with the usb cord and all.
Bad design -- 2009-01-04
The camera is great!. But the clip which attaches it to the lap is very very inconvenient. Its very tight and broke after a few days. Now without the clip, its totally useless.
We have to pull the clip apart with both hands to fit it on the laptop. I wonder how logitech came up with such stupid clip design.

This webcam was extremely easy to set up. It is a true plug and play. Have had it for a month and have really enjoyed it. I have even used it to create small video's to send to our family.

Logitech quickcam pro 9000 is the same thing as vision pro for mac !!! and it is 30 USD cheaper !!!!! both are plug and play. they do not work with yahoo messenger (MAC OS X 10.4) but works with AIM/ichat.

The webcam is very nice and small; however, every time I try and put in the install disc my computer crashes to the dreaded blue screen error. Returning tomorrow and buying something other than logitech. PS- yes I followed the directions and yes my system meets all requirements.
Great Buy! -- 2008-12-16
I love my webcam! I use it to talk on Skype all of the time and it has great quality picture and sound. I know there are a lot of fun extras it can do with making video and taking pictures with different backgrounds, but I still have to play around with that. Definitely try this product!

This camera is similar to most webcams I have dealt with. It has a digital delay, you can see the jumps - it is not a smooth video transmission. It can record dark if you don't know how to do lighting. I am able to deal with these flaws, but other people expect it to show "real time" and "real life" - it is simple technology with simple features. My aunt installed it fine, but it wants to install Windows Messenger and she had problems with that. It was Christmas Day so maybe something was wrong with the website. I paid $22 at Amazon. You get what you paid for. It is simple and works for casual purpose. Don't expect perfection for $22.

I definitely recommend this camera!
I bought it not expecting anything amazing but it actually is pretty darn good quality. It was easy to set up and figure out how to use too. Plus, the adjusting ring allows you to focus the video until it's clear.
If you're looking for a nice, affordable camera this is the one for you.

Decent Webcam for the Price -- 2009-01-04
This is a decent webcam for the price, but it cannot be compared with higher-end cameras. Overall the installation and configuration is quite simple; load in the drivers, plug in the camera and you're all set. The camera comes with a small program that allows you to adjust certain settings on the camera, such as brightness and hue, and the software also allows for still-picture and video capture. While still pictures can be 1.3 megapixel, unfortunately the highest resolution allows for recording a movie (as distinguished from video chatting) is 640x480. I don't know the reason for this, but it seems to be exclusively to limit users of lower-priced cameras. The software also has some extras, such as the ability to use "filters" that create effects on the image for when you're chatting or recording video. These are pretty useless, but I suppose they're free so there's no sense in complaining. Advanced features like the ability to have avatars instead of your face, or to add digital accessories to your image are limited to the higher-end cameras and can not be used on this device.
The picture quality goes from good (not great) to horrible based, as near as I can tell, on the lighting. With good light, the image does not lag much or get blurry, and it is perfectly adequate for video chatting. As the lighting decreases, so does the image quality, to the point of being almost unusable. If you don't have good lighting in the room where you expect to be using this camera, you're going to have to get a light source or you'll be sorely disappointed with the quality of this camera.
As for the audio quality of the microphone, I've been pretty impressed. The software allows configuration of the microphone, which is very nice - you don't feel like you need to shout to be heard, and conversations are very natural.
Overall it's a decent cam, but it's worth spending the extra money for better equipment if you're serious about either recording anything (i.e. YouTube monologues or video mail) or making sure that your friends get the best picture of you when you cam.
Logitek QuickCam Connect -- 2009-01-01
I purchased this item for myself and the Logitek QuickCam Deluxe for Notebooks for my children. This way, I can communicate, and periodically see, my grandchildren as they grow up. The picture is not super-clear, but it does the job.

Inexpensive Cute Camera - Well worth it! -- 2009-01-05
Microsoft's LifeCam VX-5000 is very small, the camera also has a colored ring that goes all the around the face. This ring comes in red, blue and green. The camera which I got has a blue ring. A blue LED is placed in the upper left hand corner of the face that turns on when the camera is in use. It is good to see that this LED is very dim. Having a Bright Blue LED flashing at you can be very annoying.
Video is recording done with the following resolutions, frame rates and bitrates in WMV video with 160kbps WMA audio.
640x480 15 fps 1900 kbps
320x240 30 fps 900 kbps
160x120 30 fps 675 kbps
Images are taken at 1280x960, 640x480, 320x240 and 160x120 in jpeg format. Audio is recorded in WMA at 48 kbps, mono
PROS:

CONS:
[-] 640x480 video only runs at 15fps that can cause jitters on the video
[-] The software is very basic and does not have additional customizations.
[-] 1.3 megapixel (1280x960) JPEG capture is not that good as it does heavy compression.
[-] The Button on the camera works only when Windows Live Messenger software is installed.
The Webcam is recognized by Windows XP Professional (SP3) without any need for additional drivers and most applications (like Paint) could easily import the pictures as a USB video Device, But for Windows Vista (32Bit) it seems that even though it got recognized and drivers loaded it still needed the software CD to make it useable for most of the applications.
Bottom-line is that it is an inexpensive well designed Webcam which will surely serve it's purpose very well without much of a fuss. The Software is easy to use. This is a keeper, Money well spent.
do NOT buy this webcam -- 2009-01-05
I bought two of these webcams - one for my parents and one for me. When I tried to install the software on my parents' computer, the installation would not complete. I went to the Microsoft Support web site, it was apparent that many people have this problem. There were five or six possible solutions listed. During the process of trying them all and not having any success, I tried to call the Microsoft support phone number. They told me they could not help me because there was no warranty on the product. A brand new webcam with known software problems and they refused to help me.
I finally got the webcam to work on my parents' computer. I spent hours installing it. Now I'm trying to install the software on my computer trying all the same suggestions from the MS web site and still no luck. I have spent even more hours on my computer.
Don't buy this webcam. It will only frustrate you and make you hate Microsoft.

Not for Linux -- 2008-12-26
This is a good webcam, for windows. If you research this product you'll find that it is supported in Linux. However, Logitech updated this camera and if you type "lsusb" in the terminal for this product you will see "ID 046d:08dd Logitech, Inc.". If you google this you'll find that no appropriate drivers are available. Do yourself a favor and do more research if trying to find a webcam for Linux. You'll save yourself;
1. A couple of hours of time.
2. Some money.
3. A massive Linux hardware headache!
Invasive software slowed PC and won't let me uninstall -- 2008-12-24
This invasive monster slowed my system and has permanently removed the change/remove programs icon from control panel. I uninstalled it and reset my system back a day and am still having problems. I did try to install it without software, but then the mic didn't work. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAMERA. IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!!

I really wanted this to work -- 2008-12-22
I tried this webcam on 2 Macs, and it just isn't very good. First of all, it requires a lot of light. For darker rooms, you need to use iGlasses to control the gain, and then you get cold and grainy video if you are lucky. The iSight in my MacBook Pro provided perfectly good images in the same room.
I really want there to be an inexpensive webcam for Macs. I haven't found it yet. I returned my IceCam 2, and I recommend you not even waste your time with it.
Good price, BAD picture quality -- 2008-12-20
The price of this camera is great, and the connectivity as well....BUT....the picture quality is awful. It is very dark and you can only use if if you have a BRIGHT light blaring in your face. No settings are available. I don't know if it's because I use a Mac, but I would imagine it's the same for PC users. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Spend more money on a higher quality cam, it's probably worth it. Save your money on this one. I would return it, but it's too much of a pain.
