 | Dell AX-3600GSL Adamo XPS 13.4-Inch Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium)
beautiful machine and powerful -- 2010-08-19 This is a fantastic machine with plenty of power and a generous amount of beauty. I've had this laptop for about a month now and it works perfectly. I figured the machine would be a poor performer since my desktop is a quad core with 8 gb of ram but the little laptop has a decent amount of muscle behind it to go through many tasks. The hinge design actually makes typing very comfortable; I touch type so was very happy with this - one thing I wish they had done was put small indents on the F and J alumninum keys so you know where to place your hands without having to look down at the keyboard. The latch/lid design is fantastic and is more cool than practical but it does its purpose of keeping the lid closed. Battery life on this machine is very poor at around 2.5 hours when you put the battery performance mode to low. Nice machine, great power but poor with battery life. I use this plugged in for the most part so it's not too much of an issue but for those that want extreme portability you may want another laptop - then again this machine is all about how thin and sleek it is - and it definately is the thinnest laptop out there.
Light + Thin, Great for Travel + Work -- 2010-08-12 Simply the most luxurious laptop I have ever owned. Sleek aluminum casing with aluminum keys give this amazing laptop the feel of an indestructible machine while also giving it the elegance of a Macbook. At half the thickness of the Macbook Air, this is an ultra-portable that slips into any bag and weighing in at less than 3lbs is enough to take with you anywhere you go. Be the envy at the coffee shop as you boot up in less than 30 seconds with a solid state hard drive and connect wirelessly at speeds in excess of 300mb with its internal N card. Simply the best laptop I have ever owned, hands down.

 | Alienware M17x-2857DSB 17-Inch Laptop (Black)
Great, but not perfect. -- 2010-08-23 Without going into all the details here's the bones for my laptop.
Pros:
- Very fast, easily a decent desktop replacement.
- Graphics cards work well when they work.
- Keyboard is very nice, perfect feel for gaming.
Cons:
- Not very stable.
- Windows 7 does not support SLi setups! So be careful choosing this one, I learnt that the hard way.
- Heavy. 'Nuff said.
The main thing here is that Windows 7 does not support SLi, so I would go for the single GFX card option if you're after a gaming machine. It will do gaming no problem, but it is not stable at all. Sometimes it'll crash after 1 hour, sometimes not at all. No way to predict.
Otherwise, I'm happy with it.
Terrible laptop -- 2010-08-23 I purchased this laptop a year and three months ago. Both the video card and the motherboard failed one month after the waranty expired. I sent it in to Dell and for about $600 they replaced the failed components. Just over 30 days after this, the video card failed again. Interestingly, this was just after the 30 day waranty on their maintenance expired! Further, Dell no longer supports the computer and referred me to Z-Tronics to have the video card replaced. Z-Tronics just told me that they don't have the video card and have no idea when they will get them again. So, now I have a $2k+ brick.
My advice? Don't by an Alienware. Dell is supporting these computers very poorly.

My best purchase deal. -- 2010-06-29 I purchased this for my Ten year olds Christmas present and we love it. I didn't want to buy him a new one until I saw how he was going to treat it. This works great! It connects to our wireless network, and any other unsecured network we find while traveling, with the greatest of ease. I'm very happy with it.
It stop working after three months -- 2010-02-05 The laptop ran decently for the three months I had it then one day I came back from class and it wouldn't come on.The only thing I download to that laptop was Anti-Virus software.I took it to a computer repair shop today and they told me that there was nothing they could do to make it come on. The company I bought this laptop from should give me my money back.

Muy buena compra -- 2010-01-28 La laptop estaba en las condiciones que el vendedor habia estipulado, estoy muy satisfecho con la misma.
Good Buy -- 2010-01-09 The computer was refurbished and in very good condition, it is not as fast as the new models now, but the price savings was worth it, it is being used by my daughter for school work and some games, I am planing on buying a second one for myself.

 | Alienware m15x-216CSB 15.6-Inch Laptop (Cosmic Black)
A Blazing Fast Laptop -- 2010-08-25 After having my XPS M1530 kicking the bucket I had it sent back to dell for a full refund. I had always wanted an Alienware computer but always thought they were too expensive. When I finally got my refund back it was too late in the summer to custom build one from Alienware with school coming soon. So I looked on Amazon and sure enough they had the M15x for sale. So I said why not since it was only a bit more than my XPS system, tacked on 1 day shipping with Amazon Prime and got it the next day.
My god this thing is beautiful. The build quality of this laptop is fantastic, I love the hard plastic finish on the palm rest. It doesn't smudge and my hands will not deteriorate the material like on my M1530. They keyboard has minimal flex and the 900P screen is fantastic to look at. The touch pad isnt that great but who cares, its a gaming laptop, your expected to use an external mouse. The Alienware FX lighting system on this thing is so cool. Any one that sees this thing will instantly be attracted to the multicolor light up keyboard, it looks awesome.
As for the performance of this laptop look no further. This thing is very fast with the specs it ships with. My system actually came with 1333MHZ DDR3 instead of the stated 1066MHZ. The i7 720 quad CPU is a beast for multitasking. Alienware is great about not sending their systems with any bloatware which slows your PC down at start up, even still I like to do a fresh install with any of my systems and I have only 5 start up items, which makes load times for windows within seconds after entering the password, or having the laptop camera recognize your face. Gaming is great with this thing, the 5850 seriously pulls it weight, you can also flash its bios to make it run at the 5870s clock speeds. So far I have only played Oblivion on this thing. It runs at 1600x900 with high settings, 2AA, and maintains a respectable frame rate.
If you dont feel like waiting from Dell to pick up an Alienware, get this from Amazon. You will not be disappointed.

 | Dell Latitude D630 Laptop Computer System Dual-core Processor Wireless XP Pro
Not great for your eyes, music or movies -- 2009-10-24 I had to buy this for work, but my first experience when I started using it was that I couldn't see a darn thing. Our company has since gone on to work with a Lenovo ThinkPad, so apparently this Dell model didn't last long as an option. I went from the Dell Latitude D600 with a big, vibrant screen to this Dell Latitude D630 with a small screen and dull color reproduction screen. I am not a techie so forgive if I am not using the right terminology, but I will tell you that my eyes are suffering right now from using this computer. Computer vision strain is apparently a very real problem and I seem to be experiencing it more and more. If using your computer makes your eyes burn, makes you tired or gives you headaches, and you have neck and/or back pain, then you might be suffering from CVS as well. I do not recall feeling the same with my old Dell computer. Add to this that the speakers are very poor and mono-sounding. I just had to have the hard drive and the keyboard replaced (sticking key). They were both under warranty. This is after 1 3/4 years of daily use. Add to this that I am using this computer more and more. I am going to try to work on reducing my eye vision. I wear glasses for distance (near-sightedness), but computer vision falls between close and distant viewing. If I come up with a good idea, I will add it to my review. Amazon offers several types of computer glasses. I even looked up magnifying screens for laptops, but most options didn't seem set up for laptops. To put it mildly, using this computer is becoming an increasingly miserable experience. If I didn't have over $800 invested in this computer, I would not be using it and therefore I can't recommend it to anyone. In this day and age, a dull viewing experience is totally unacceptable. I did pull out an old pair of America OnLine tinted reading glasses (+.5 strength) that were most likely for computer use. They do seem to help somewhat but overall experience is still discouraging, frustraing, and for those of you who are addicted to using your computer, maddening.
I also am now experimenting with changing the number of dots per inch (dpi). I went to the Control Panel, Display, then Advanced and selected the option to increase the number of dots per inch from 96 to 120. It is one means of at least viewing the images and print more comfortably without the use of glasses. There may also be a way to enhance the color. I will check into it.
For viewing movies you will will miss out on a lot of the vibrancy of colors, and you will definitely want to add speakers or use headphones.
If anyone has any helpful suggestions about these issues, I would love to hear them. Good luck with your laptop purchase.
Sturdy machine -- 2009-08-23 I've had a Dell Latitude D630 for almost 2 years now and there's one key feature that needs to be pointed out first. It's solid. Although I've never dropped it, it has been through a lot. It's very difficult to warp the LCD screen by applying pressure to the back of the display, and the screen is recessed a fair bit from the outside edges. I've seen quite a few people crack their screens but you'd have to try pretty hard to break this one. At first glance it appears thin, plastic, and flimsy; but when you pick it up and hold it you can tell there is a strong network of metal bracings underneath the surface.
When I bought mine brand new from Dell, quite a few technical things went wrong. First the touchpad never worked well out of the box. It skips, freezes and stops working intermittently. I understand this is a big problem with Dell laptops. The other joystick style mouse works well, but after a year started occasionally drifting to the top right of my screen at slow speed so I had to disable it. I usually use an external mouse anyway. After having the laptop for about a year, a section of the motherboard fried and the computer kept giving me video driver errors, but after I called Dell they politely came to my home and swapped the defective part free of charge. I play my fair share of PC games and this thing gets hot. Sometimes the bottom of the laptop will become uncomfortable to set on your thighs so I'm not surprised the board burned out. It's important to note that this machine only gets hot when it's running a video game. It usually runs at normal temperatures doing everything else. I invested in a fan cooling pad which does a good job keeping it cool.
Other than the mouse and heat issues, it's a good machine. It's a nicely sized laptop as well. Personally I feel like it's not too big or too small.

 | Dell Inspiron 1545 15.6-Inch Jet Black Laptop - Up to 4 Hours 34 Minutes of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium)
Excellent Performance but Battery and Adaptor failed within 13 months -- 2010-09-07 We purchased this as our family laptop last year from Best Buy... and the we were extremely satisfied with the product until the Battery and the Adaptor failed one by one within 2 weeks. I would suggest that you consider a part-replacement cost of parts such as the adaptor / battery when you make your buying decision. Clearly we missed this part based on our previous puchases of an ACER laptop and TOSHIBA laptop. We have been using these for 4 years and 1 yrs now with no issues what so ever. We hope this helps you make a better purchase decision. Thanks.
A good computer -- 2010-08-27 I got this laptop about a month ago, and so far it has been great for me. It connected easily to my home network, and I was able to quickly download and/or install all the programs that I want for it. It runs most programs very smoothly and quickly. I have not used the webcam for much, only for a little bit of testing, but it seems to work great so long as you are not in a dimly lighted room.
Obviously this is not a gaming laptop, so I would not expect it to run high-end games on full graphics, but it runs my emulators and other games excellently on normal graphics. I have had one minor problem with this, when the display driver stops responding for a moment. It only happens when I am playing games, and even then it happens seldom. At first I was worried by this problem, but my brother, who is a computer programmer, assured me it is not something to worry about. Having said this, I would not recommend it for anything other than light gaming, and probably not with newer games.
For the most part, the laptop stays very cool, and the fans, when they do come on, are pretty quiet. The touchpad can occasionally get a little warm with prolonged use, and the bottom can get a little warm when sitting on your lap for a long time, but it is not warm enough to cause concern or a need to stop using the computer. I have noticed, though, that with prolonged use when it gets very warm, the touchpad can from time to time be a little unresponsive or jerky in motion. It does not happen often and does not last more than a few seconds, so cannot be described as more than a minor nuisance. Another thing, I have noticed is that the touchpad does not have a scroll bar on the side of it. This takes some getting used to, and can be annoying, but I have become accustomed to it and it no longer bothers me.
I must say, the glossy finish around the keyboard does look nice, but as one would expect it does attract fingerprints and smudges. The finish on the outside of the computer also attracts the occasional smudge, but there are few that do not.
The screen is beautiful, but with bright light behind it can be a little reflective, though this should not be a problem unless an application or movie has dark colours.
The keyboard is a good size and easy to type on. I especially like the controls at the top of it for volume, screen brightness, and even to pause, fast forward, or rewind a movie.
All in all, this is an excellent laptop for somebody who will use it for simple applications, internet browsing, and maybe light gaming. It definitely is not built for heavy gaming, but it will do very well for everyday usage.

 | Dell Latitude D610-1.73 Laptop Wireless Computer (Refurbished)
Refurbished Dell Latitude Computer from Amazon.com -- 2010-08-20 This computer was a great buy for our family. We were specifically looking for a smaller computer that we could take on trips to download photos of our travels and transport photos from home to show family and friends. It also allows us to check our e-mails and Facebook on trips.
