Amazing product; impressive results -- 2010-05-22
An amazing product, easy to use with impressive results. The ability to individual adjust the scanning properties of each slide/negative allows customization to yield excellent outcomes. Plus it is fast. More effort than sending your slides off to be processed, but a lot more control over the quality of the final product. Highly recommended.

Not good- constantly warming up -- 2010-05-11
Epson discontinued it's 1680 scanner and this seemed to be it's replacement. I'm not sure if the one I received was broken, but it stalled for 1 minute to "warm up" every time you changed between reflective to transmissive scan methods. The 1680 did not do this.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but my normal usage is to scan a document, then 1 or more associated transmissive images. This was a show stopper for me, so back it went.

Frustrated the entire time I used it -- 2010-08-31
I bought this scanner in the beginning of 2010.
It makes great scans of black and white 35mm negatives. I haven't tried black and white 120 negatives, but I assume it's the same thing.
As far as color goes -- not the best, at all. No, let me correct that: it will make good color scans if your exposure was correct and if the film was developed correctly. But even then, the colors are usually seriously off and needs to be corrected with software. Sometimes the colors are so off that the image is not even useable. Also sometimes I have to scan more than once because the scanner cannot even pick up the negative. At first I thought it was just me not using the scanner correctly; but I WAS using it correctly. It's jut a terrible scanner.
But now after just living with these frustrations, it won't even power on. It's completely dead. It sits on my computer table and hasn't been dropped, I don't know what's wrong with it and I am so angry that I have to buy a new scanner. It's not even worth fixing or sending back.
I'm not expecting perfection, but a little consistency. $130 is not much to a lot of people, but it is to poor college students like me.
I'm now saving up my money to buy a better scanner.

love my epson -- 2010-07-24
I received my Epson scanner within two days of order. It is wonderful, very easy to use, and excellent quality. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a user-friendly, high-quality scanner for the price.

Unsurpassed Scan Quality -- 2010-08-21
The scan quality of this scanner is amazing. The ability to scan negatives is a plus. I consider this scanner and software easy to use but then I am experienced with other scanners and software as well. I honestly don't know if this is a scanner for a beginner.

Stunning results for a flatbed scanner -- 2010-09-07
I bought this scanner a couple of years ago to do a high-res 35mm (Kodachrome) slide -> digital file conversion. I also bought it because all of my dad's slides (shot 40+ years ago) are on the verge of useful life. He also shot medium format with a 5x7 Kodak and a speed graphic.

The 35mm slide to digital worked great, and two years later, I'm finally started the main project. I downloaded all the new drivers and Silverfast Ai updates (though the V750 now appears to come with SE), and installed it on a dedicated 2.6Ghz core2duo (4GB dram, hooked up via USB) machine. Works great.

I'm doing 35mm negatives right now, and while it took me a while to dial in the focus, I'm very happy with what I'm getting. Excellent detail in the shadows (I believe the Dmax 4.0 claim), and believe I'm getting the 4800 dpi I'm scanning for. (I know 4800dpi for color neg is a waste, but the detail from the Kodachrome conversion I did a couple years back makes me a believer.) 9 minutes/frame@4800dpi with ICE@high-res.

Silverfast allows color reversal with dozens of types of reversal film masks, with individual control (gamma, color, ICE, resolution, orientation, etc.) over each frame. Then you just batch scan the entire holder. (A word about the film/slide holders. They're made of polycarbonate, and feel flimsy, but I've found polycarbonate to be pretty strong stuff. No complaints so far.) I have not tried the Epsonscan software that's also included.

I would buy this scanner again (as a film scanner) in a heartbeat. It would be a waste to buy this scanner as a normal reflective unit (and it does work that way). But if you want to scan in archive quality negs/transparencies for preservation, this is an excellent buy.

(I will update this review when I start doing all of the medium format stuff.)

Excellent Scanner -- 2010-05-22
I replaced a UMAX Powerlook II with the Epson V 750 Pro. This is an excellent scanner for working as a stand-alone scanner to do copies or OCR into Microsoft Word. The scanning capabilites are excellent and it will work thie the SliverFast or EZ color utilities (trial versions)that are bundled. Setup of the scanner went exceptionally well on the first try- far easier than some of the others that I have owned. This scanner has the ability to do transparencies, negatives, and x-rays which is a real bonus versus the slower Nikon one-slide-at-a-time scanner.

My only comments about the scanner is that Amazon ships the scanner by putting a UPS label directly on the box. The first scanner that came by standard UPS looked like it was dropped on one of the corners and was returned. The second scanner was ordered via overnight and arrived with two corners caved inwards and was refused. Finally, I got smart, paid the $3.99 for gift wrapping (blue bag) which meant thatt the wrapped scanner had to go in a larger box with padding. This one arrived without a scratch. Unfortunately, this ordering and returning becomes a problem. I don't understand why Amazon would ship a delicate electro-optical device and expose it to damage in transit.

AVOID THIS AT ANY COST!!!! -- 2010-06-10
The software is kludge. [Update....several hours later....] Let me rephrase that. This 'software' is PURE UNADULTERATED KLUDGE. And I have the distinct impression that whoever wrote it uses English as a tertiary language.

The duplexing ONLY works with 8.5" wide paper.

Additionally, just straight scanning from the document feed tray is flaky for documents only 6.5"x4.25". It won't feed them at all if you put the narrow edge in first. And if you use the wide edge, it truncates the scanned image, cutting off material.

THIS THING IS A HUNK OF JUNK!

No Major Problems -- 2010-06-07
I use this scanner at work. I scanned over 3,000 documents and rarely had an issue. Normally if I had a problem it was because the document became jammed due to bent corners, etc. I'm seriously thinking about buying one for home.

PageMaker came with the scanner, and I love that software. I can make the documents PDF, Word, Powerpoint, etc., very easily. I hope that this software still comes with it.

Wonderful Scanner -- 2010-07-19
LOVE this scanner. I have one at work and would so love to have one at home if only it didn't cost so much. Scans great pictures, and any document you can think of in a flash. Can save to Jpeg file or PDF along with other formats well.

Fijitsu FI-5110C -- 2010-03-24
This machine is easy to use. It is used in business. The most attractive feature of the scanner is the twain driver. Very easy to apply what you have scanned directly to your application, rather then having to put it in a folder.
I do have to watch the pages go through the chute. It seems depending on the quality of the paper has a effect on if the pages stick together.(better quality, less sticking).

Unlike the Fijitsu Scansnap S1500 which I also have, you have to select "front side" or "duplex" which can be annoying if you only have one page in the grouping that is double sided.
I think for the price, its a good machine due to the fact it does have the twain driver and alot of other good features.

Great scanner for the price -- 2010-06-26
Great scanner even in a commercial setting like a medical practice. Was very pleasantly surprised that works just as fast and well as by $2500 Canon scanners. Well done!

The feeder sucks! -- 2009-12-22
The scanner would be a great product except for the fact that 95% of the time, if you scan 2 or more pages, the pages will stick together and therefore your scan will be missing pages. You have to sit there and watch the scan, usually clear a paper jam, then figure out which pages didn't get scanned, rescan them and then rearrange the pages in the pdf file. TERRIBLE. DO NOT BUY!!!

UPDATE - I called Canon to complain. They sent me a new scanner free of charge. The new scanner is just as worthless as the orginal one. This is an inferior product, not fit for its intended purpose. I cannot emphasize strongly enough how much I hate this scanner. Buy the comparable Fujitsu. I used to have a Fujitsu and I never had problems with it.

Godd scanner but buy from manufacturer -- 2010-09-06
I love the card scanner but it did not work when I bought it. After 2 phone calls to the manufacturer, they figured out that my card scanner had old software and did not work with my version of MAC OS so I had to download the current software. The whole hassle took a little over an hour to resolve. I would have purchased it from the manufacturer for the additional $10. Amazon.com did not reveal that the software was non functioning/obsolete. The scanner itself is great and has greatly reduced clutter in my office. I do not recommend buying from amazon.com.

Dandy Desktop Scanner -- 2009-11-16
I upgraded from Fujitsu fi-5220c to this model, mainly for
increased speed. We use the scanner mainly to scan medical
records using PaperPort12 Pro. Unfortunately, the documentation
by Fujitsu and Nuance is lacking. For example, the Fujitsu 6140
comes with a excellent bundle of software but it is unclear how
to manage these features in PaperPort. A video tutorial demonstrating
the features, such as advantage of ISIS drivers vs TWAIN etc would
be most helpful. Otherwise, the scanner has performed well.

This scanner rocks -- 2010-06-21
We needed a new scanner here at work because our HP scanner was absolutely ancient and VERY slow. I was looking for a new scanner that had auto document feed, easy to use & could accept legal size paper. We just scan paper documents and it gets moderate daily use from several office staff.

I read the reviews here on Amazon & also checked out several other scanners, but chose this one because it could handle legal size paper. I was not disappointed!! This scanner is blazing fast in "Office Mode" at 600 dpi in black & white. A ten page document took about 20 seconds to scan & create a crystal clear PDF document. It has several different settings although we probably won't use them very often. It does scan in color which takes quite a bit longer.

It took about ten minutes to set up the scanner including taking it out of the box & installing the software. To begin a scan you just push a single button on the scanner & a popup window comes up to set your parameters. Extremely easy!

If you want a workhorse of a scanner with brilliant imaging then get this one.
