 | Pentax Optio W90 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Pistachio Green)
Worthless picture quality doesn't befit a "real" camera. A toy?? -- 2010-09-03 I recieved the black Optio W90 as a 25 year gift from my company. "Wow", I thought "it has some good reviews." Water resistant camera, lots of "features." Sure, I'll pick this camera over the Canon and Sony.
I'm sorry to say that the image quality of this camera is only slightly better than a toy. Well, actually it's not. I have, and do own, many still cameras from Canons, Nikons, Sonys, from Pro SLR's to inexpensive point and shoot. While most don't take pictures as good as my Canon 20D, they all do a realitively good job given proper lighting and careful use. I have really liked some of the Canon Sure Shots and some of the Sonys. No, I don't work for any camera companies. :)
Uou may think that I'm used to really high quality SLR camreas and that is a bias. Not in this case. I'm comparing the Pentax with similar point and shooters in the same quality/price range. That's apples to apples.
Simply put, I'm VERY DIS-SATISFIED with the W90.
Picure quality? Look at the lense. How many elements given that it's almost a surface-mount lense? It's also not much of a light collector! The pictures all are noisey and lack clarity - regardless of lighting and settings. Simply put, it's an embarrassment to Pentax. I've owned other Pentax cameras and I've seen them do MUCH better. The high pixel noise, horrible color balance (in almost any light), muddy colors and soft lense make for a rotten photographic experience.
Features? It's lacking some of the most common features found in modern point and shoot cameras - some basic manual control. There are a multitude of "modes" that try to make up for the lack of some simple manual conrol. Modes are fine, but give us some control over the camera if we want it. Instead of playing with "pet face detection" put some effort into proper noise reduction, a better image chip or a better lense! Why would I want to take a low quality, smudgy picture of my pet?
In the video mode, the lack of picture quality is less noticeable because the moving frames hide some of the detail. The video is not that great either. Again, there is much better out there in a point and shoot.
If I could get money back for this gift, I'd be first in line. Don't bother getting this camera. You will NOT be happy with the images it creates unless you are looking at them on the back of the camera or reduced in size to a small portion of a computer screen. Don't even try to look at it full screen. Sigh.
We've tossed this camera in the bottom of a dresser drawer never to be used unless it was an emergency! Sad.
If I could give it zero stars for picture quality, I would. It's got some nice "fun" features, but what's the point if the picture you are taking looks horrible.
Optio review -- 2010-09-01 This camera is perfect. Not only because you can use it underwater, but also because you can feel confident that it will last for long, and it is hard to broke it... water, humidity, dust will no damage it. Also great pics and easy operation. This is the second one that I buy; I bought my first Optio10 in 2005 which worked perfectly 4 years until somebody rub it to me during a trip.

 | Canon PowerShot A3100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Blue)
Average at Best -- 2010-09-03 I really wanted to love this camera as much as the 5-star reviewers. In fact, it was the high praise that made me buy it. However, it suffers from the typical problems most cameras in this price range do --slow shutter/write to disk speed and mediocre low light shooting.
I shoot mostly indoors, and I was taken in by all the reviewers who said this camera does great in low light conditions. Not my experience. I keep it set to "Auto" mostly because I'm not a photographer who fiddles with all the settings, so I was banking on the auto feature to sort out poor lighting, but probably 30% of my indoor shots are blurry (I have a pretty steady hand) and/or over-exposed from the flash. And the time it takes to write an image to the disk (I use a high-end SanDisk Extreme III SD card)is aggravating. The pause is at least 3 seconds, which doesn't sound like a lot, but an eternity if you're trying to capture events quickly (without having to use the continuous fire mode).
Also, I thought I wouldn't miss having a view finder to look through, but I was wrong. If you use this outside in bright light, the LCD is nearly useless. Taking a picture with the LCD in bright light is a crap-shoot guesstimate.
Anyway, it's not the worst camera I've owned in this price range, but I'm still looking for the best in this price range, and I don't think this is it.
Love my new camera! -- 2010-08-27 This a great little point-and-shoot camera. Compact, lightweight, and easy to use. Picture quality is excellent. I tried some cheaper point-and-shoot cameras and they felt flimsy and plastic. This feels like it won't break the first week you own it. Shutter speed is a tiny bit slow, but still better than my old camera. I recommend this camera if you want a decent one for a small price.

 | Samsung 12.2MP Dig Camera 4.6X Opt 3 In LCD Blue
Not Durable at all! so dissapointed -- 2010-09-03 I have gone through THREE of these cameras, they break for no reason. I am an avid picture taker and was So excited to get this camera with the dual screens so me and my son could take fun pictures as well as me and my friends while we are out. All I did was turn the thing on and the lens got stuck in the on position and the screen wouldnt turn on at all. I took the battery in and out a few times and still nothing. It took great pictures when it did work. But going through 3 of them within 5 months was too much for me. Until Samsung can make a more durable lens (which if you go to best buy or another store to check this out you can feel that the lens is "loose"). I hope this review helps some people.
Excellent Camera -- 2010-08-24 This is an awesome camera especially for taking easy point and shoot photos. This camera is totally dumb-proof...anyone can figure it out.
I recently used it for my grad school graduation and it took perfect pictures. Even my 6 year old niece took excellent pictures with this camera.

 | Sony DSC-W350 14.1MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Zoom with Optical Steady Shot Image Stabilization and 2.7 inch LCD (Black)
SONY always innovating -- 2010-08-25 Beatiful camera, zoom acceptable, the size is very small, looks beatiful!!! The panorama funtion is exceptional and innovator. The memory is SD or SPD, is your choose and is an plus to sony. I recommend it!
Do not buy! -- 2010-08-23 It does not matter how the camera operates IF you NEED a 'SPECIAL' Sony card that fits no other gadget, a 'SPECIAL' Sony reader so consumers can access their photos. And worse the no consumer support, and if your camera is under warranty good luck getting any satisfaction. These are not suppose to be disposable cameras and they should last longer than 9 months! After your camera breaks you not only have that to toss but the card and reader! Sony corp are vampires out to suck your wallet dry DO NOT BUY!! you have been warned.

 | Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Silver)
Canon PowerShot - Great small camera -- 2010-09-06 I bought this camera a month ago and have enjoyed the ease of use and clarity of photos since the 1st shot. Takes great dog pics and puppy pics. Also does an excellent job to document my weavings before they are sold. I'm lovin' this piece of equipment. I had to charge the battery yesterday (1 month on a charge is NOT bad)!

Last of the Enjoyable Canon Digital Elph Camera -- 2010-09-01 The Canon PowerShot SD 780IS is my latest and the fourth Digital Elph acquisition. This could very well be the last camera for this Canon branch (with 12+ megapixels)to come with a real-image optical zoom viewfinder. I hope I am wrong on this assumption.
Prove me wrong on the following three points if one could do quality photographic management without a camera viewfinder:
1) Any compact digital camera(including the new Canon brands) which allows the photographer to get a good view of the object in front through the LCD screen, with the sun on his back.
2) Any compact digital camera (including the new Canon brands) which allows the photographer to take rapid succession or panning shots viewing through the LCD screen inches away from the eyes.
3) Conserve battery with a LCD screen only digital camera.
It's no point in lamenting the whys and the stupidity of doing away with an optical zoom viewfinder on the Digital Elph series, or any similar cameras for that matter. Best Buy doesn't even carry this Digital Elph model. All PowerShot cameras or similar it carries have only LCD screens.
Compact digital cameras with viewfinders are a vanishing species. If you like a digital camera with a viewfinder, or have ever own a lower than a 10 megapixel Canon PowerShot Digital Elph, get the SD780IS camera. It's worth it.

 | Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Body Only)
Good Camera for the money... -- 2010-09-07 Very good camera for the money, but not with IS lenses... if you want good picture quality by USM lenses, easy to use, very light camera for DSLR. I have this camera for almost 1 year and the battery life is very good. I would recommend T1i to a friend if you look for camera about 600-800 $...
Best price -- 2010-09-05 Have been a long-time fan of the value in the Canon Rebel series. Upgrading to this model, I found that the best price when I was shopping was easily here on Amazon.

 | Sony DSC-HX5V 10.2MP CMOS Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle Zoom with Optical Steady Shot Image Stabilization and 3.0 inch LCD
Sony HX5 -- 2010-09-05 We took this camera on a two week vacation. The quality of the images is fantastic. Buy an extra battery in order to have a fresh one available. The camera captures images in very low light. I did not try the video and/or panorama features. Gps & time zone adjustment works well.
Beware - do search for "sony cybershot memory problem" first -- 2010-09-03 Classic story. Did the research. Picked this camera. Brought it for anniversary trip to Hawaii. Five days in, I get a memory stick error. Say goodbye to pictures for the trip. This was when I did a google search for "sony cybershot memory stick problem" and came up with tons of hits, including people wondering why Sony can't get this right from years ago. Sony customer support was no help. They just told me to go out and buy another memory card and a card reader and check it out. So I did that. Sure enough, it was a problem with the camera, not the memory card! But searching for that error, I can upon a ton of people with the same problem. So that's my advice. Check that. And then buy another camera!

 | Canon PowerShot SD1300IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Green)
Great Purchase -- 2010-08-21 I purchased this Canon Powershot after my previous model Canon Powershot was stolen. After doing much research on the internet for a new camera to purchase, I ended right back at the Canon Powershot. The reviews were great, it was highly ranked, & as a previous owner I figured I couldn't go wrong. I love the quality of pictures this camera takes, especially the options available. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this camera.
It is a very nice camera -- 2010-08-15 I gave this camera to my daughter as her college grad gift. I compared with many cameras,it uses rechargeable battery, it saves a lot. The price is reasonable. She loves this camera very much. She said this is a very good one, the pictures are shape, but for some reason, the color on the screen turn to be quite yellow. Anyone knows why? And she likes the color( green) too.
