Product description
Manufacturer Product Description How easy is this? Just select what you want to do with your original – scan, copy, or create email attachments or PDFs – and the entire process is automated. The new Auto Scan Mode detects your type of original, then scans and saves it with the optimal settings. Your results will be outstanding, with color dpi resolution up to 4800 x 4800, and you can also create fabulous 19600 x 19600 software-enhanced (extrapolated) scans. Plus, a letter-sized color scan takes only about 14 seconds.

  • 4800 x 4800 color dpi resolution.
  • Auto Scan Mode automatically recognizes the type of original.
  • To reduce the number of wires in your work area, one simple cable provides power and a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection.

The Advanced Z-Lid lets you produce clear, complete scans of thick originals such as notebooks. Built-in FARE™ 3.0 retouching technology helps to enhance your final images, even correcting for dust, scratches and backlighting on photos. And to reduce "cable clutter", one simple cable provides power and a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection.

Done in 14 Seconds
Now, scanning is faster than ever. In about 14 seconds, you can scan a letter-size color original such as an article, or a page from your notebook or textbook.

Shadow-Free Scans
Typically, when you scan a page from a book, the shadow from the book’s inside "gutter" shows up on the scan. No more. Gutter Shadow Correction eliminates that shadow, providing a clean scan of just the page — and not the gutter.

4 EZ Buttons
How simple is this? Just press a button to select what you want to do with your original — copy it (sending a scanned image to your printer), scan and save it, produce a PDF, or create an email

Smart Scanning
Whether you’re scanning a photo, document, business card, textbook or personal notebook, the new Auto Scan Mode automatically recognizes the type of original, crops it to proper size and then scans and saves your file in the appropriate format. Perform this and more with the press of a single button.

Just One Wire
To reduce the number of wires in your work area, one simple cable provides power and a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection.

Push a button it scans, sends to printer, or saves as pdf. Price is right.

What scanners should be or do -- 2010-08-16
I have a ton of old papers I'd like to get rid of without losing the information they contain. That might be a slight exaggeration. There are sixteen crates about twelve inches by eighteen inches, ten inches high, and a couple of larger boxes, all down in my basement. There are many boxes full of papers upstairs in my computer room. I need to get them scanned, shredded and out of my life. I also have a hope chest full of photos, left by my mother. I don't know all of the people in the pictures but my wife and kids don't know any of them. I need to save them in digital form.

I don't use Windows. Most scanners expect you to install their driver software because you are probably using some version of the Windows operating system. I don't think scanners should concern themselves with my choice of operating systems. You should be able to place a paper or photo in the machine and produce a digital image file without having to use a computer. If I have a document several pages long, I should be able to save it as a PDF file without tying up my computer. If I have a photo or a slide (my dog ate about a third of my slide collection one afternoon), I should be able to save it in my choice of format without involving a computer. The scanner shouldn't worry about whether I use a desktop, laptop, netbook or cellular phone (I use an Apple iPod Touch most of the time).

I want a high quality duplex scanner I can feed piles of documents that will write the images to a memory stick or memory chip. No such machine is currently available at a reasonable price.

Failing that, I wanted something inexpensive but of reasonable quality that would work with my aging Apple Mac Mini with no fuss about installation. I wanted something that Just Works.

The Canon scanner comes close. It does what I want it to do without a lot of fuss. So far, this machine works well.

Oh, it has some features I'm not too happy about. There are some buttons on the end of the machine that, when accidentally hit, do strange things, never what I expect or want. I could live without the buttons. I try hard to ignore the buttons. That's about the only thing wrong with the machine, apart from the computer connection thing.

It takes about half a minute to scan a sheet, twice as long if I have to scan both sides. It is small enough that I can pack it away when I'm not using it. It has a stand that allows it to work standing up instead of lying down; I tested it, it works, but I have little use for such a feature. My shredder is getting lots of use, papers are no longer accumulating, and I'm happy with the few photos I've scanned so far.

Some day they'll come out with a full duplex automatic feed scanner that doesn't require a computer. I'll get one when they come out. Until then, this scanner will do.

The Canon LiDE200 Color Image Scanner was quick to set up and start using. The scanning results are great! One of the best things about this scanner is you are able to place many photos on the scanner and it will seperate each one on your computer to save. This saves time when scanning lots of photos. Just remember, you need to select color photo when doing color photos and black & white when doing black & white.

Canon scanners--always the best -- 2010-08-14
I really like the Canon scanners and this one is no exception. I had to buy another scanner, just for the laptop and decided to look at the new versions of the one I liked so much for the desktop. This makes very good images, is lightweight and has a small footprint. Easy to install and use. I am pleased with my purchase and recommend it.
